INTERNATIONAL THEOLOGICAL SYMPOSIUM ON ELDER AIMILIANOS The Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi and the Holy Monastery of Simonopetra are organizing an International Theological Symposium titled:
"In Memory and Honour of Elder Aimilianos of Simonos Petras A Witness to the Glory of God and a Guide in the Spirit" This international symposium will take place in Athens from May 8 to May 10, 2026. The Official Opening will be held at the Christmas Theater (Galatsi Olympic Arena) on Friday, May 8, at 5:00 p.m. The Symposium proceedings will continue on May 9 and 10 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel (2 Megalou Alexandrou St., Karaiskaki Square). Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra was a landmark figure for our generation. He consumed himself in asceticism, prayer, and the spiritual guidance of his spiritual children. His words—glorifying the Triune God and offering hope to every soul—served as a source of inspiration for countless people, both monastics and laity. The aim of this Symposium is to highlight, explore, and contribute to the study of the personality, the spiritual, pastoral, and theological work of Elder Aimilianos, as well as his spiritual legacy and its significance in the modern world. Distinguished speakers will address specific themes, shedding light on aspects of Elder Aimilianos' personality and multifaceted work, as well as his impact on: Orthodox spirituality Ecclesiastical life Theological thought The contribution to Orthodox monasticism and the contemporary world at large.
