In a recent article the British Museum stated that "the Parthenon Sculptures are an integral and essential part of the world heritage that is esxibited in the Museum". This statement is Important to us because it exposes the last line of defence of the BM – that the Sculptures are “an INTEGRAL part of the museum presenting, etc” – in other words essential for the survival of the BM as an entity!

What a lame argument, what a paucity of ethical and democratic justification, what a corner this one institution in London is in, putting forward this argument to defend its possession of 63% of the central cultural, symbolic, national, archaeological, symbol created by, belonging to, and claimed by another nation, the creators of the looted items.

If it is a matter of Greece getting back what is part of its Parthenon and identity, or a foreign museum closing because of a dearth of domestic showpieces to attract visitors, then let the museum close. 
They cannot hold history and Greece to ransom any longer.
